What it Means to Be Good Student
Being a good student means acting the way your educators expect you to act.
“The kind of student that I desire” is what stuck out to me the most because often times there are students who will misbehave in class or follow the teachers instructions and they will automatically be seen as troubled. A good student would follow a set of rules or instructions from teachers, such as raising your hands before speaking, being on time, participation and Only speaking when your told to speak.
The students who are privileged by this definition of the good students are those who grew accustomed to these rules, a student not from a different country may have a different commonsense on the school guidelines than people who were born here. How a student perform in school does not just include mentally and physically, the social aspect is very important as well as the environment the students are exposed to.
Because of these commonsense we are now able to understand that society pressures us to believe that there is a specific way for students to learn and behave in the classroom. It was also visible that society values certain behaviours rather than understanding the meaning behind them, like student M for example, he was disobedient but because he was not following instructions or rules he was seen as problematic. We need to understand that learning is not the same for everyone and that there are different methods used in teaching rather than use one that set students on the same level of learning and understanding.
